Lina’la i Hanom | Ola i Ka Wai | Water is Life, 2021

I made this piece in honor of the Indigenous movements to protect our waters from U.S. militarization from Guahan to Hawai’i.

It is an illustration of my god daughter, Kalea who carries both CHamoru and Kanaka Maoli ancestries. On her dress I drew CHamoru pottery motifs that are believed to be possible symbols of water and life. On her head is a crown of flora from both Guahan and Hawai’i to represent our connection to land
